2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale Prices, Specs and Features for Australia
Description
The updated Tonale arrives in Australia with two hybrid powertrains, more standard Veloce equipment and a Sport Speciale edition from $68,990.

The 2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale’s Australian range is now simpler: buyers can choose a Veloce mild hybrid or plug-in hybrid, while the Sport Speciale adds distinctive trim to the mild-hybrid version. Prices start at $64,990 before on-road costs. The update also brings revised styling and more equipment as standard, including heated and ventilated front seats in the Veloce.

That cabin upgrade is a practical part of the refresh. The centre console has been redesigned around a rotary gear selector, and new material finishes accompany the changes. Outside, Alfa Romeo has revised the grille and front bumper, shortened the front overhang and fitted new 19-inch wheels. The front and rear tracks are wider; the brand says this should reduce body roll and understeer.

Alfa Romeo also says it has refined both powertrains, with more prompt, linear power delivery and less noticeable transitions between combustion and electric drive. Those are manufacturer descriptions; the specifications show that the two versions serve different needs. The front-wheel-drive Ibrida is lighter and has a larger fuel tank, while the all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid offers more system power and can cover some trips on electricity.
Australian prices and range
| Model | Price before on-road costs |
|---|---|
| 2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale Veloce Ibrida | $64,990 |
| 2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale Ibrida Sport Speciale | $68,990 |
| 2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale Veloce Ibrida Plug-In Q4 | $78,990 |
The Veloce is the sole trim offered with either powertrain. The Sport Speciale is based on the Veloce Ibrida and costs $4,000 more, adding 20-inch two-tone wheels, a gloss-black body kit, ice-grey details and a Harman Kardon sound system. It also includes a sunroof, a $1,990 option elsewhere, but gives up the Veloce’s ventilated front seats.

Colour is another way to distinguish the special edition: Giallo Ocra, a yellow finish, is exclusive to the Sport Speciale. Monza Green and Brera Red are new choices across the range. Every Tonale has a black roof. Alfa White is the standard exterior finish; Alfa Black, Brera Red, Misano Blue, Vesuvio Grey and Monza Green each cost an extra $1,900. Montreal Green costs $2,500 more. Inside, red leather-accented upholstery with red stitching adds $1,000 over the black interior.

The plug-in’s quoted electric range needs a small qualification: the source gives 59km WLTP in its specifications table, while its overview describes the figure as 58km WLTP. It also compares that with 61km under the older NEDC cycle. Those cycle figures aren’t directly interchangeable. For owners, the 7.4kW maximum AC charging rate and access to regular charging will shape how much of the plug-in’s short-trip driving can be electric. Its claimed 1.7L/100km fuel use is a stated figure, not a guarantee of real-world consumption.
The mild hybrid pairs its 0.77kWh battery with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and front-wheel drive. It has 128kW of system output and a claimed 5.4L/100km fuel use. The plug-in’s combined output is 198kW, down from 208kW in the previous specification cited by Alfa Romeo. It weighs 320kg more than the Ibrida, but its claimed acceleration time is quicker: 6.6 seconds to 100km/h, against 8.5 seconds.
Equipment, dimensions and ownership
Features previously included in the optional Lusso Pack now come standard on the Veloce. These include perforated black leather-accented seats with eight-way power adjustment, driver-seat memory, front heating and ventilation, a heated steering wheel and heated washer nozzles. The Veloce also has adaptive dampers, matrix LED headlights, a hands-free power tailgate, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Its six-speaker audio system is replaced by Harman Kardon hardware in the Sport Speciale.
The Tonale measures 4,522mm long and 1,841mm wide, with a 2,636mm wheelbase. Cargo capacity is 385L. The Ibrida is 1,601mm tall; the plug-in hybrid is listed at 1,641mm. Towing capacity favours the lighter mild hybrid, at 1,500kg braked compared with 1,250kg for the plug-in. Both require 95-octane premium unleaded.

Warranty coverage is five years with unlimited kilometres, and roadside assistance is included for five years. The plug-in battery has separate coverage of eight years or 160,000km. Scheduled servicing is required every 12 months or 15,000km. The first three capped-price services cost $450.13, $552.06 and $450.13 for the Ibrida, and $244.84, $231.92 and $244.84 for the plug-in hybrid.
Safety and standard equipment

The Tonale has a five-star ANCAP rating based on testing conducted in 2022. Its reported scores are 84 per cent for adult occupant protection, 87 per cent for child occupant protection, 67 per cent for vulnerable road user protection and 85 per cent for safety assist. Listed equipment includes adaptive cruise control with stop/go, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot assist, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view camera, parking sensors at the front, rear and sides, Traffic Jam Assist, traffic sign recognition, tyre pressure monitoring and six airbags.

The Sport Speciale’s cabin combines Alcantara and leather upholstery with ice-grey accents and stitching, gradient interior detailing and revised ambient lighting. Its 20-inch Fori wheels and black brake calipers with white Alfa Romeo lettering complete the edition’s changes. Buyers weighing the $14,000 gap between the entry Veloce Ibrida and plug-in Veloce will need to decide how much value they place on electric-only driving and all-wheel drive; the published range, charging rate, fuel figures and towing limits help frame that choice.
