2026 Jaecoo J5 Petrol: Australian Prices, Specs and Running Costs

The petrol-powered Jaecoo J5 gives Australian buyers a $25,990 drive-away entry point into the brand’s small SUV range. Its value case rests on a low starting price, a long warranty and generous standard equipment; the trade-offs to weigh are a single front-wheel-drive drivetrain and claimed fuel use of 7.5L/100km.

Omoda Jaecoo Australia launched the petrol range in June, following the electric J5’s Australian arrival in January at $36,990 before on-road costs. A hybrid version is still to come, with the company saying it is coming soon. For now, buyers can choose between two petrol grades: Track and Summit.

Price and rivals

ModelDrive-away price
2026 Jaecoo J5 Track$25,990
2026 Jaecoo J5 Summit$29,990

At $25,990 drive-away, the Track sits near the bottom of Australia’s SUV price ladder. The listed lower-priced alternatives include the MG ZS Vibe 1.5L at $22,990 drive-away and the Mahindra XUV3XO AX5L at $23,990. Chery’s Tiggo 4, from Jaecoo’s sister brand, also starts at $23,990 drive-away.

Other entry-level offers put the J5 in close company: the base manual Hyundai Venue is listed at $23,750 before on-road costs, with a current $25,990 drive-away offer, while the Haval Jolion Premium is currently offered for $23,990 drive-away. These prices make the J5’s equipment and ownership terms part of the comparison, alongside the sticker price.

The electric J5 has a separate price and specification range. Read our price and specs article on the Jaecoo J5 EV.

Engine, economy and towing

Both petrol grades use a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 108kW and 210Nm. A continuously variable transmission sends drive to the front wheels. There’s no alternative engine or driven-axle configuration listed for the petrol range, so buyers choosing between Track and Summit are deciding on equipment rather than powertrain.

The quoted economy figure is a claim, not a real-world result. The 51-litre tank and 91-octane fuel requirement give buyers useful planning details, while the 750kg braked towing capacity sets the stated limit for towing a braked trailer. MacPherson struts are used up front, with a multi-link rear suspension setup.

Size and cargo space

The J5 is a five-seat small SUV measuring 4380mm long, 1860mm wide and 1650mm tall, with a 2620mm wheelbase. Cargo capacity is quoted as 384L behind the rear seats when measured to the top of the seatback, or 480L when measured to the roof. The difference reflects the measurement method, so the two figures describe the same luggage area at different heights.

Warranty and servicing

Jaecoo covers the J5 with an eight-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty. The package includes 12 months of complimentary roadside assistance; servicing within the Omoda Jaecoo network can extend roadside assistance to up to eight years.

Scheduled servicing is due every 12 months or 15,000km, whichever arrives first. Listed service prices range from $299 in years one and five to $706 in year six. The year-eight service is $616, with the other quoted visits priced at $359 in years two, three and four, and $329 in year seven.

Safety and equipment

The J5 has not yet been assessed by ANCAP or Euro NCAP. Listed standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, driver monitoring, lane-keep and emergency lane-keep assistance, rear cross-traffic assistance, safe exit warning, traffic jam assistance and speed sign recognition. A surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors and tyre-pressure monitoring are also included. The airbag count is seven: front, front-side, front-centre and curtain airbags.

The Track comes with 18-inch alloy wheels and 235/55 R18 tyres, LED projector headlights, automatic high-beam, heated power-folding mirrors and rain-sensing wipers. Convenience features include remote start, proximity entry, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, and an 8.88-inch digital instrument display.

Its 13.2-inch touchscreen supports wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, paired with a six-speaker sound system. The cabin has cloth upholstery, rear air vents and a steering wheel adjustable for reach and rake. Charging connections include front USB-A and USB-C ports, a rear USB-A port and a front 12V outlet.

The $29,990 Summit adds a power tailgate, panoramic glass roof with powered sunshade and an eight-speaker audio system. It also brings a 50W wireless phone charger, leatherette upholstery described as pet-friendly, and six-way power-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation. Other additions include dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a second-row armrest, a cargo cover and a 12V boot outlet.

Colours and buying choice

Every petrol J5 has a black interior. Alpine Green is the standard exterior finish; Arctic White, Carbon Black and Stormy Blue each cost an extra $600.

The Track is the price-focused choice, while the Summit’s $4,000 premium buys comfort, cabin and cargo-area upgrades. With the hybrid still pending, the key figures to compare today are the petrol J5’s drive-away price, claimed economy and scheduled service costs. Explore the Jaecoo J5 showroom.
