2026 BMW iX3 Prices, Range and Specs: Australian Line-up Explained

The new BMW iX3 pairs a long claimed range with two distinct powertrains, while introducing the brand’s Neue Klasse EV platform and a radically different cabin. Australian deliveries of the dual-motor iX3 50 xDrive have begun; the less expensive, single-motor iX3 40 is due in the fourth quarter of 2026, from October to December.

Prices start at $89,900 before on-road costs for the iX3 40, rising to $109,900 for the 50 xDrive. The 50 xDrive’s claimed WLTP range is 805km, while the iX3 40 is listed at 635km. That makes the rear-drive model a substantial step down in price, with a smaller battery and less power; its claimed energy consumption figure is still to be confirmed.

Two versions, with a sizeable price and power gap

The iX3 40 uses a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 235kW and 500Nm. Its 82.6kWh net nickel manganese cobalt battery supports a claimed 635km WLTP range. BMW quotes a 0–100km/h time of 5.9 seconds, a kerb weight of 2085kg and maximum charging rates of 22kW on AC and 300kW on DC.

At $20,000 more, the iX3 50 xDrive adds a second motor and all-wheel drive. Output rises to 345kW and 645Nm, and BMW claims a 4.9-second 0–100km/h time. It weighs 2285kg and uses a 108.7kWh net battery, with a claimed WLTP range of 805km. Its stated energy consumption is 15.1–18.8kWh/100km.

The 50 xDrive’s battery has 113.4kWh gross capacity and uses nickel manganese cobalt chemistry with cylindrical cells. BMW says their energy density is 20 per cent higher than that of its previous-generation prismatic cells. The larger pack and higher DC charging ceiling of 400kW give the flagship the longer-distance brief, while the 40 offers a lower entry price and rear-wheel drive.

Both versions support AC charging at up to 22kW. The published figures are peak rates; the source doesn’t give charging times, so those numbers alone don’t show how long a typical stop will take. The iX3 40’s consumption figure is also listed as pending, making direct efficiency comparisons incomplete for now.

Neue Klasse platform and rivals

The second-generation iX3 is the first BMW built on the company’s Neue Klasse dedicated EV platform. It shares its mid-size SUV role with the combustion-powered X3, but has different underpinnings and a distinct exterior and interior design. BMW plans to carry the new design language across its wider range.

The cabin’s defining feature is a 43.3-inch Panoramic Vision display that stretches across the dashboard, alongside a 17.9-inch touchscreen. The layout signals a major change in BMW’s approach to the driver’s display and infotainment, though the listed equipment also retains familiar buyer priorities such as wireless phone integration, a head-up display and physical comfort features.

Its named rivals include the Audi Q6 e-tron, Mercedes-Benz GLC EV and Porsche Macan. The iX3’s headline advantage on paper is its 805km claimed range in 50 xDrive form. Those figures use the WLTP test cycle, and real-world distance will depend on conditions and use; the source provides no comparative rival range or charging data.

BMW plans to follow the SUV with the i3 electric sedan in early 2027. The 3 Series-sized model will also use Neue Klasse architecture, extending the platform beyond the iX3.

Size, luggage space and standard equipment

The iX3 measures 4782mm long, 1895mm wide and 1635mm high, with a 2897mm wheelbase. Luggage capacity is 520 litres with the rear seats in place, expanding to 1750 litres when they’re folded. There’s also a 58-litre storage compartment under the bonnet, useful for keeping smaller items separate from the main cargo area.

The 40 and 50 xDrive have the same listed standard equipment, with their differences confined to the mechanical package. Both get 20-inch M Sport alloy wheels, a power tailgate, a fixed panoramic glass roof with climate comfort glazing, proximity entry and a Mode 3 charging cable.

Inside, standard kit includes Veganza leatherette upholstery, a Harman Kardon sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, DAB+ radio, ambient lighting and dual-zone climate control. The multifunction front seats have heating, massage, lumbar support, memory, backrest width adjustment and eight-way power adjustment. A heated steering wheel and head-up display are also included.

The listed safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control with stop/go, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, Steering and Lane Control Assistant, speed sign recognition and tyre pressure monitoring. BMW says the driver-assistance suite uses four short-range radars, one mid-range radar, five cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors.

Warranty, servicing and safety rating

BMW covers the vehicle for five years with unlimited kilometres and the battery for eight years or 160,000km. Roadside assistance runs for three years. The iX3 has no fixed service intervals: its condition-based system tells the driver when maintenance is due and can alert a dealer through connected services.

Prepaid Service Inclusive plans cost $1614 for four years or $2420 for six years. BMW’s Service Inclusive Plus plans add coverage for wear items including brake pads, brake discs and windscreen wipers; they cost $5535 for four years or $6615 for six years. The source says prepaid plans may be offered for EVs, so buyers should confirm the applicable plan when ordering.

The iX3 received a five-star rating in its assessment under ANCAP’s 2026 protocols. Its category scores were 71 per cent for safe driving, 83 per cent for crash avoidance, 86 per cent for crash protection and 95 per cent for post-crash performance.

Options, paint and interior trims

The $3500 M Sport Pro package adds red brake calipers, M seatbelts, an M steering wheel and M Sport front seats. These seats have 10-way power adjustment, electric head-restraint adjustment, heating, massage, memory and an illuminated M badge. The package also brings gloss-black exterior details and a gloss kidney grille in M Shadowline.

Optional 21-inch wheels cost between $2500 and $3200; 22-inch choices range from $5300 to $7700. Leather upholstery in Black or Adelaide Grey costs $4000, while a Digital White BMW Individual steering wheel is $300. Trailer tow hitch preparation is $2500. The tow bar tongue kit and power cable are separate items, with pricing yet to be supplied.

Alpine White is the standard exterior finish. Metallic colours cost $2000 and include Black Sapphire, Space Silver, M Brooklyn Grey, Ocean Wave Blue, Fire Red, Eucalyptus Green and BMW Individual Polarised Grey. Frozen matte Space Silver and Ocean Wave Blue finishes cost $6000. Other BMW Individual colours can be requested, including Java Green and two purple shades.

Interior colour choices depend on the upholstery. Black is available, while Digital White, Castanea Bicolour and Agave Green are offered with Veganza. Adelaide Grey is reserved for leather. With the iX3 40 arriving later in 2026, the key buying decision for now is whether the 50 xDrive’s extra range, power and all-wheel drive justify its $20,000 premium.
