2026 Jaecoo J8 SHS Summit: Price, Range and Specs for Australia

The 2026 Jaecoo J8 SHS Summit brings a plug-in hybrid drivetrain and seven seats to Omoda Jaecoo’s largest SUV, priced at $59,990 before on-road costs. Showrooms are due to receive it this month. Its claimed 169km electric range on the NEDC cycle is the headline ownership figure; buyers will need regular charging to make the most of the plug-in system.

The J8 SHS Summit is the range’s only plug-in hybrid variant. It shares its tri-motor all-wheel-drive system and price with the seven-seat Chery Tiggo 9 Ultimate Super Hybrid. The related Omoda 9 costs $61,990 plus on-road costs. The J8’s equipment distinctions include an eight-way power driver’s seat and adaptive dampers; it doesn’t list the Tiggo 9’s semi-autonomous parking assist.

There are two petrol-only J8s as well. Both use a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, have five seats and require 95-octane premium unleaded. The SHS instead uses a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine alongside three electric motors, and adds a third seating row. Omoda Jaecoo launched the J8 in Australia last year as its second local model.

Australian prices and powertrains

The entry J8 Track is front-wheel drive and costs $49,990 drive-away. The all-wheel-drive Ridge is $54,990 drive-away. The SHS Summit is listed at $59,990 before on-road costs, so its quoted price uses a different basis from the two petrol models.

ModelPrice
2026 Jaecoo J8 Track$49,990 drive-away
2026 Jaecoo J8 Ridge AWD$54,990 drive-away
2026 Jaecoo J8 SHS Summit$59,990 before on-road costs

The petrol engine in the Track and Ridge produces 183kW and 385Nm, paired with an eight-speed automatic. Their claimed fuel consumption is 8.3L/100km for the Track and 8.6L/100km for the Ridge. The SHS’s 1.5-litre engine makes 105kW and 215Nm. Its three electric motors are listed at 75kW/170Nm, 90kW/220Nm and 175kW/310Nm, with combined system outputs of 315kW and 580Nm. A three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission sends drive to all four wheels.

The SHS carries a 34kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery and has a claimed fuel consumption figure of 1.2L/100km, plus 28g/km of CO2 emissions. Those figures sit alongside its 169km NEDC electric range and depend on using the battery’s charge. AC charging is listed at up to 6.6kW, while DC charging reaches up to 70kW. Its 70-litre fuel tank gives it a petrol fallback for longer trips, though all three J8 variants specify premium unleaded.

The hybrid weighs 2275kg, compared with 1790kg for the front-wheel-drive Track and 1890kg for the Ridge. The SHS has a 1600kg braked towing capacity. The petrol variants’ towing figures aren’t provided.

Space, equipment and servicing

The J8 measures 4820mm long, 1930mm wide and 1710mm high; the SHS is 1715mm tall. Its wheelbase is 2820mm. The seven-seat SHS lists 200 litres of cargo capacity behind the third row, 738 litres behind the second row and 2021 litres behind the first row. Those figures show the trade-off families will want to check in person: the third row is available for passengers, while luggage space grows as seats are folded.

Even the Track comes with a panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, head-up display, 12.3-inch instrument display and 12.3-inch touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, a built-in dashcam and a 12-speaker Sony sound system are also listed. Front seats are heated, ventilated and massaging; the driver’s seat has eight-way power adjustment and memory. The rear seats split and fold 60:40, and the cabin has dual-zone climate control with rear vents.

The Ridge adds adaptive damping, Michelin tyres and Snow, Mud, Sand and Offroad drive modes. Its other additions include rear privacy glass, semi-autonomous parking assist, heated and ventilated second-row outboard seats, adjustable ambient lighting and a fragrance system. The SHS Summit has an electronic locking rear differential and a third seating row, but does without a rear cargo blind. Its adaptive dampers and fragrance system are among the equipment distinctions from the closely related Tiggo 9.

Warranty, safety and ownership costs

Omoda Jaecoo provides an eight-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, and the SHS also has an eight-year, unlimited-kilometre battery warranty. Roadside assistance begins with 12 months and can extend to up to eight years when servicing continues within the Omoda Jaecoo network. Capped-price servicing is offered for eight years. Listed service prices range from $299 for the first service at 12 months or 15,000km to $767.89 for the SHS’s eighth service at 96 months or 120,000km. The listed Ridge price at that interval is $799.

The J8 has not yet received an ANCAP assessment. Standard equipment across the range includes adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep and lane-centring functions, a surround-view camera, rear cross-traffic assist and front and rear parking sensors. The Ridge and SHS Summit add second-row side airbags; side parking sensors are listed only for the Ridge.

Ocean Blue is the standard paint colour, with Iridium Silver, Arctic White and Carbon Black available as options. For buyers comparing the J8 SHS with its Chery relative, the key decision is how its equipment mix, seven-seat layout and long claimed electric range fit their routine. Charging access and the space required with all three rows in use are practical details to weigh alongside the price.
