2027 Volkswagen Amarok Prices, Specs and W600 Details

The 2027 Volkswagen Amarok range has a higher entry price, fewer variants and a new performance-focused flagship. The W600, tuned by Australian firm Walkinshaw, arrives in September; the reshuffled lineup also drops the bi-turbo 2.0-litre diesel and the Core and Life trims.

The Amarok now comes with a choice of two engines. The 2.3-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder, previously reserved for the Aventura, powers the entry-level TSI452 Style. Diesel buyers get a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6, badged TDI600. Both use a 10-speed automatic and full-time four-wheel drive with low-range.

Style now opens the range at $73,740 before on-road costs, an $18,250 increase to the starting price. There are seven variants across five trim levels, including one V6 cab-chassis model. Volkswagen attributes the lost four-cylinder diesel option to Ford’s decision to discontinue it in the Ranger, the ute on which the Amarok is based.

The petrol engine produces 222kW and 452Nm, against the diesel V6’s 184kW and 600Nm. Claimed fuel use is 9.7L/100km for the petrol and 8.4L/100km for the diesel. Both are listed at 222g/km of CO₂ emissions. Fuel tanks hold 82 litres in the TSI452 and 80 litres in the TDI600.

Both powertrains have a 3500kg braked towing capacity. The petrol’s payload is 969kg; diesel payload varies from 809kg in the Aventura to 985kg in the PanAmericana. The W600 is rated at 954kg. Diesel gross vehicle mass is 3350kg except for the Aventura, at 3190kg; gross combination mass is 6400kg, or 6300kg for the Aventura. The petrol figures are 3230kg GVM and 6200kg GCM.

W600 and trim differences

The W600 is the second Amarok developed with Walkinshaw, following the W580. Its changes aim for a sportier on-road setup, with Koni Frequency Selective Dampers tuned for the model, a 22mm rear anti-roll bar and retuned steering. Twenty-inch wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tyres, wider track and fender flares round out the chassis changes. The track measures 1660mm, compared with 1620mm for other dual-cab pickups.

Distinctive details include a redesigned front bumper and grille with a light bar, power-retractable side steps and twin side-exit exhaust tips. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Australia expects 200 W600s to be produced for the 2026 model year. The W600 also gives up the Aventura’s heated steering wheel.

The Dark Label is another limited run, with 200 units confirmed for Australia. Based on the Style and offered only with the diesel V6, it adds black exterior details, 20-inch matte-black wheels, black roof rails and side steps, dark tail lights, a spray-in tub liner and soft tonneau cover.

Style equipment includes 18-inch wheels, matrix LED headlights, heated front seats, a 10-way power driver’s seat, 12.3-inch instrument display and 12-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also gets satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control, a tub liner, six tie-down points, a 12V tub socket and tow bar.

The PanAmericana adds all-terrain tyres, a black headliner, leather-appointed upholstery, a power passenger seat and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon system; it deletes the tub’s 12V socket. The Aventura brings 21-inch wheels, a heated steering wheel, leather upholstery and an electric roller cover. The W600’s equipment list includes a signature light bar, puddle lamps and brushed aluminium door sills.

Dimensions, ownership and equipment

The dual-cab pickup measures 5350mm long, 1910mm wide and 1886mm tall, with a 3270mm wheelbase. Its tub is 1544mm long at the floor, 1224mm wide and 529mm deep. Ground clearance is 235mm, rising to 237mm on the W600. Volkswagen quotes an 800mm wading depth. The W600 is 1985mm wide.

Volkswagen Australia provides a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and 12 months of roadside assistance. Scheduled servicing is due every 12 months or 15,000km. Capped-price servicing runs for five years, with a stated total of $3864 and average annual cost of $772.80. Individual service prices range from $665 at 15,000km and 75,000km to $989 at 60,000km. A five-year service plan is also offered for $3200.

The Amarok has a five-star ANCAP rating based on Euro NCAP testing in 2022; Volkswagen Australia says the rating applies to the W600. The listed scores are 86 per cent for adult occupant protection, 93 per cent for child occupant protection, 74 per cent for vulnerable road user protection and 83 per cent for safety assist.

Options are limited: 20-inch Bendigo wheels cost $1290 on the TSI452 Style, while an electric roller cover for the W600 costs $3450. Clear White is the no-cost paint choice. Bright Beige, Bright Blue, Dark Gray, Deep Red, Medium Silver, Midnight Black and Reed Green metallic finishes each cost $1100. The W600 isn’t offered in Bright Beige, Bright Blue or Reed Green; its current wildcard colour is Deep Red.

With the cheaper trims and four-cylinder diesel gone, the key choice is now between the petrol Style’s higher power and the V6’s greater torque and lower claimed fuel use. The W600 adds a distinct road-focused setup, while the PanAmericana and Aventura retain the range’s more equipment-led alternatives.
